Bodyweight One Leg Deadlift · Preview

STEP 1

Setup

Stand on one leg with a slight bend in the supporting knee. Lengthen your torso and position your arms for balance.

STEP 2

Start phase

Hinge your hips back as you lower your torso and extend the opposite leg behind you. Keep your pelvis from opening to the side.

STEP 3

End phase

Press through your supporting leg to bring your torso upright and return to the start.

STEP 4

Target muscles

Move through the hamstrings and glutes of your supporting leg. Your spinal erectors help maintain your back position.

STEP 5

Common mistakes

Avoid rounding your lower back or twisting your pelvis. Do not reach so low that you lose balance.

STEP 6

Breathing

Inhale as you hinge forward and exhale as you stand up.

STEP 7

Coach tip

Learn the hip hinge without dumbbells first. Switch sides and repeat the same movement.
