Setup
Face forward, stand tall, and prepare to start walking. Brace your torso so you can use the same stride length on every step.
Start phase
Step forward, load the front foot, and lower. Point the back knee toward the floor and keep your hips from swaying side to side.
End phase
Push through the front foot to stand and flow into the next step. If your steps break rhythm, do not rush the transition; prioritize balance on each step.
Target muscles
Feel your quads and glutes take turns working. As you walk, check that each front foot accepts your weight fully.
Common mistakes
Changing your stride length or swaying your torso side to side breaks both tension and balance. Slow down if needed, but keep the same step length on every rep.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower and exhale as you stand into the next step. Steady breathing keeps your torso from rocking during longer sets.
Coach tip
Use a straight line, such as a hallway, to make your stride and direction easier to control. As fatigue rises, focus more on placing each step steadily than on moving quickly.
