Setup
Lie face down with the foam roller near the outer chest and front of the armpit. Use your opposite hand and foot on the floor to control the pressure. Do not load all your weight at first; stop at a firm pressure that is not painful to release the front of your chest safely.
Start phase
Slowly move your body back and forth through a short range so the roller follows the fibers of your pec. When you find a tight spot, slow down and relax your neck and jaw without shrugging.
End phase
After covering one section, slowly return to the start while keeping pressure, and change your angle slightly if you want to explore another fiber direction. Work slowly through small tight areas instead of rushing across a wide range.
Target muscles
Focus on the front of your chest gradually softening under pressure and the tension across your rib cage easing as your breathing deepens. A tight area settling slightly with each exhale is a sign of relaxation, not excessive force.
Common mistakes
Pressing hard directly on the center of your sternum or rolling through severe pain is harsh and not helpful. Avoid pressing directly on the front shoulder joint; stay on the softer chest and front-armpit tissue.
Breathing
Do not hold your breath under pressure; exhale slowly to relax, then inhale through your nose as you return and prepare for the next section. On sensitive spots, a long exhale can make the pressure feel much smoother.
Coach tip
For chest rolling, calmly work several spots for 20–30 seconds each instead of pressing hard for a long time. Follow with a light chest stretch or arm-opening movement to connect your range of motion before the tissue tightens again.
