Setup
Stand tall holding dumbbells in a neutral grip. Square your shoulders and hips forward and brace your core.
Start phase
Curl one dumbbell diagonally toward the opposite side of your chest. Keep the elbow from lifting high and your torso facing forward.
End phase
Lower the dumbbell slowly to its starting position. Keep your torso facing forward during the descent.
Target muscles
Think of pulling diagonally with the front of your upper arm and forearm. If your torso rotates, lower the weight and regain a forward-facing position.
Common mistakes
Rotating with the dumbbell spreads tension into your core instead of your arm. Prioritize a steady torso and stable elbow over heavier weight.
Breathing
Exhale as you lift and inhale as you lower. Steady breathing makes it easier to limit momentum.
Coach tip
Find the height where the front of your upper arm works best instead of lifting too high. Lowering for 3 seconds also makes the forearm tension stronger.
