Lying Leg Raise · Preview
Setup
Lie on the floor with your legs straight and your lower back down. Place your hands beside you or under your hips and stabilize your pelvis.
Start phase
Slowly lift your legs. Do not force your knees rigid; use your core to lift only as far as your back stays down.
End phase
Lower your legs slowly. Keep your lower abs working and control the speed until just before your feet touch the floor.
Target muscles
Keeping your back down during the lowering phase makes a major difference. Shorten the lowering range if your lower-ab tension fades.
Common mistakes
Lowering quickly or too far so your back lifts strains your lower back. A shorter range is better if it keeps your back on the floor.
Breathing
Exhale as you lift and inhale as you lower. A long exhale helps keep your pelvis stable.
Coach tip
Slightly bending your knees makes it easier to practice keeping your back down. Straighten your legs more only when you can stay stable on the way down.
