Seated Leg Raise · Preview
Setup
Sit on a bench or the floor and lightly support yourself with your hands. Lift your chest and brace your core so your back does not collapse.
Start phase
Slowly lift your legs. Do not throw your torso back; think of your lower abs pulling your legs up.
End phase
Lower your legs slowly. Keep your core engaged until just before your feet touch the floor so tension continues between reps.
Target muscles
The more firmly you hold your torso upright, the more clearly you can feel your lower abs. Sit taller if your quads work more than your core.
Common mistakes
Leaning far back or swinging your legs strains your lower back. Keep your torso upright and lower slowly, even if you need a shorter range.
Breathing
Exhale as you lift and inhale as you lower. Steady breathing helps reduce body movement.
Coach tip
Using your hands too heavily reduces core involvement. Use only enough support for balance and keep your core in charge.
