Side Lunge · Preview
Setup
Stand with your feet wide and face forward. Keep your chest lifted as you prepare to shift your weight into one hip.
Start phase
Bend one knee, send your hips back, and lower to the side. Keep the opposite leg long and continue pressing that foot into the floor.
End phase
Push the floor away with the bent leg to return to center. Rise with your torso upright instead of folding too far forward.
Target muscles
Feel the work in the glute and inner thigh of the bent leg. The key is sending your hips back, not simply shifting side to side.
Common mistakes
If you drive only the knee forward without sending your hips back, knee pressure increases. Reduce the depth if needed, but first learn to send your hips back clearly.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower and exhale as you return to center. Matching your breath keeps the movement from suddenly speeding up.
Coach tip
It is fine to start with a smaller side-to-side range. Once your alignment is stable, gradually increase your depth and travel distance.
