Setup
Place one foot in the center of the platform and keep the other foot in a safe position. Keep your back and hips against the seat, and brace your torso so your pelvis does not twist.
Start phase
Press the platform away with one leg to extend it. Keep your knee tracking in line with your toes instead of letting it collapse inward or drift outward.
End phase
Slowly lower while resisting the load with the same leg. Adjust your range so your pelvis does not lift on one side at the bottom.
Target muscles
Make sure the working thigh and glute are producing force independently. Because this movement can expose left-to-right differences, keeping your alignment centered is especially important.
Common mistakes
If your pelvis rotates or your knee collapses on the weaker side, the load becomes extra stress. Even if you have to reduce the weight, establish the same position on both sides first.
Breathing
Exhale as you press, and inhale as you lower. Using the same breathing pattern each rep makes the single-leg movement more stable.
Coach tip
Starting with the weaker side and matching its rep count makes it easier to manage your left-to-right balance. Be stricter about pelvic alignment and knee tracking on every rep than about the number of reps.
