STEP 1

Setup

Sit on a bench with your forearms supported on your thighs and hold the bar palms down. Let your wrists move freely just beyond your knees.

STEP 2

Start phase

Keep your forearms still and extend your wrists to lift the backs of your hands.

STEP 3

End phase

Lower the bar slowly to the starting position. Keep your fingers wrapped around it.

STEP 4

Target muscles

Use the muscles on the outer side of your forearms to move your wrists, without lifting from your elbows.

STEP 5

Common mistakes

Avoid lifting your whole arms or bouncing your wrists. Stay within a comfortable range.

STEP 6

Breathing

Exhale as you lift the backs of your hands and inhale as you lower the bar.

STEP 7

Coach tip

Start lighter than you would for a regular wrist curl. Control the small wrist movement while keeping your forearms supported.
