Cable Chest Press · Preview
Setup
Hold the cable handles in both hands and step one foot forward. Keep the handles beside your chest, slightly bend your elbows, pull your shoulders back, and open your chest.
Start phase
Slowly press the handles forward from your chest. Keep your elbows close to your torso as you press instead of letting them flare out.
End phase
Slowly bring the handles back beside your chest. Stop just before your shoulders roll forward, when you feel your chest stretch.
Target muscles
Think about pressing the handles away with your chest. If you feel only your arms working, lower the weight and press more slowly.
Common mistakes
If your torso leans forward or your feet shift, you cannot use the cable tension well. Brace your abs and keep your torso steady.
Breathing
Exhale as you press and inhale as you return. Exhaling through the press helps you drive more force through your chest.
Coach tip
Unlike a barbell, cables keep tension on the chest through the full range. Pause briefly before fully extending your arms to keep your chest working longer.
