Setup
Lie on the bench and hold both cable handles. Open your arms beside your chest with a slight bend in your elbows.
Start phase
Bring the handles together from above until they face each other. Keep your body anchored to the bench and your shoulders down.
End phase
Slowly open the handles again. Lower them only as far as you can maintain a long stretch across your chest.
Target muscles
Feel your entire chest open wide and then draw inward. Think about bringing your chest together, not just your hands.
Common mistakes
Straightening your elbows or rounding your shoulders makes your arms and shoulders fatigue first. Keep your elbow angle fixed and do not lift your body off the bench.
Breathing
Exhale as you bring the handles together and inhale as you open them. Keep the pace steady on every rep.
Coach tip
Do not chase excessive depth; find the range where the cable tension stays continuous. Keeping tension on the cable makes the chest tension much stronger.
