Dumbbell Overhead Tricep Extension · Preview
Setup
Stand holding one dumbbell overhead. Keep your elbows beside your ears and brace your core.
Start phase
Bend your elbows and lower the dumbbell slowly behind your head. Keep your ribs down so your torso does not arch.
End phase
Extend your elbows with your triceps and lift the dumbbell. Finish by fully pressing through your triceps.
Target muscles
Think of pressing the dumbbell up with your triceps. If your shoulders take over as your elbows spread, lower the weight and narrow them.
Common mistakes
Elbows flaring or a lower-back arch reduces triceps engagement. Prioritize elbow position and a stable torso over weight.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower and exhale as you lift. Keep breathing while maintaining your core brace.
Coach tip
You can create a full triceps stretch with a light weight. Pause for 1 second with your arms extended for stronger engagement.
