Jump Rope · Preview
Setup
Hold the handles comfortably with your elbows close to your body. Keep your knees slightly bent and your feet light on the floor.
Start phase
Turn the rope with your wrists and bounce lightly off your toes. Keep the jump as low as possible while you find your rhythm.
End phase
Slow the rope and lower your jump height to finish. Transition to marching in place until your breathing settles.
Target muscles
Feel your calf spring and torso rhythm connect together. Relax your shoulders so your wrists can rotate comfortably.
Common mistakes
Turning the rope with your whole arms tires your shoulders first. Keep your elbows still and focus on wrist rotation.
Breathing
Breathe naturally with the rhythm instead of taking short, broken breaths. Do not hold your breath as the jumps get faster.
Coach tip
Maintaining a steady beat matters more than jumping for a long time at first. Increase the duration and intensity once your rhythm is consistent.
