Knee Push Up · Preview
Setup
Place your knees on the floor and your hands shoulder-width apart, making a straight line from your knees to your head. Brace your core without pushing your hips back.
Start phase
Bend your elbows to about 45 degrees and slowly lower your chest toward the floor. Lower your upper body together instead of reaching forward with your head.
End phase
Push the floor away with your palms and come up. Thinking about pushing with your chest changes the exercise from simply using your arms.
Target muscles
Think about pushing the floor away with your chest. If a standard push-up is still difficult, first learn the feeling of driving through your chest.
Common mistakes
If you push your hips back or arch your lower back, your chest gets very little work. Keep your knees fixed and your upper body straight.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower and exhale as you push up. Exhaling as you push helps you keep tension in your chest.
Coach tip
If your wrists are uncomfortable, make fists or use handles to change the angle. Once you can do more than 10 knee push-ups, progress to incline push-ups.
