Setup
Place your back against the pad and set your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform. Align your toes and knees in the same direction and keep your hips firmly against the pad.
Start phase
Bend your hips and knees together as you lower slowly. Keep your knees tracking toward your toes and your hips against the pad.
End phase
Press through your whole foot to rise back up. Finish just before your knees lock out so your quads can stay under tension.
Target muscles
Because the machine travels in a straight line, it’s well suited to emphasizing your quads. If you don’t feel your quads working, try moving your feet lower on the platform.
Common mistakes
If your pelvis tucks under at the bottom because the weight is too heavy, stress on your lower back increases. Even if you reduce your depth, prioritize keeping your pelvis fixed and your knees aligned.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower and exhale as you press the platform away. Brace your abs after inhaling and press while keeping your torso stable at the bottom.
Coach tip
Placing your feet lower on the platform may emphasize your quads, while a higher position may emphasize your glutes. Find a comfortable position in your first set and keep the same depth throughout the set.
