Setup
Sit with your back against the backrest and grip both handles at shoulder-width. Plant your feet firmly, open your chest, and prepare.
Start phase
Press both handles overhead while keeping your shoulders down. Think of your shoulders driving the handles to load your front and side delts.
End phase
Pause when your arms are almost straight, then lower the handles slowly. Control the descent instead of letting the weight pull you down.
Target muscles
Think about pushing the handles with your shoulders. Reduce the weight and find that shoulder-driven feeling if your triceps take over.
Common mistakes
Lifting your lower back makes it fatigue before your shoulders. Control the handles on every descent so fast lowering does not reduce shoulder tension.
Breathing
Exhale as you press and inhale as you lower. Exhaling as you press can help you connect to your shoulders.
Coach tip
The pin-loaded design makes quick weight changes useful for drop sets. Remove one or two pins in the final set for a controlled extra challenge.
