Setup
Sit with your back and hips against the backrest, grip the handles at shoulder height, and brace your core. The path is guided, but lower-back momentum is still easy, so keep your ribs down and torso fixed.
Start phase
Press the handles overhead through the centers of your palms without bending your wrists. Think of your shoulders driving the handles to load your front and side delts.
End phase
Pause with your arms extended, then lower the handles slowly to shoulder height. Control the descent instead of letting the plates pull you down.
Target muscles
This press machine lets you focus on your delts pushing upward without balance demands. Lower the weight and think of your shoulders driving if you feel only your arms.
Common mistakes
Lifting your lower back or flaring your ribs increases back stress instead of shoulder engagement. Lower only to a comfortable depth if the front of your shoulder feels uncomfortable.
Breathing
Exhale as you press and inhale as you lower. On heavy sets, inhale, brace your core, and press for a steadier rep.
Coach tip
Because resistance changes at the top on a plate-loaded machine, a brief top pause can strengthen shoulder engagement. Before adding weight, confirm a 1-second pause and 2-second controlled descent.
