Setup
Look forward, gently tuck your chin, and open your chest. Let your arms prepare to move naturally at your sides.
Start phase
Land on your heel and push off through your toes. Swing your arms in time with your legs without overdoing it.
End phase
Gradually reduce your speed to finish walking. Do not stop suddenly; use the last few minutes at a comfortable pace.
Target muscles
Feel your glutes and calves take turns driving each step. Let your whole foot roll smoothly through the ground.
Common mistakes
Dropping your head disrupts both breathing and stride length. Look into the distance and keep the back of your neck long.
Breathing
Breathe long and steadily with your walking rhythm. Let your ribs and abdomen move together rather than only your chest.
Coach tip
Keep your shoulders relaxed even when you walk a little faster. Releasing upper-body tension helps you walk longer with less fatigue.
