Setup
Stand on the platform, open your chest, hinge your hips back, and grip the wide handles. Keep your back straight, lower your shoulders, and fix your torso angle.
Start phase
Pull the handles toward your upper chest with your elbows spread wide. Let your elbows move up and back before your hands.
End phase
Briefly squeeze your rear shoulders, then lower the lever slowly and straighten your arms. Return while keeping the same torso angle and back position.
Target muscles
Pull your elbows wide to engage your rear delts and upper back together. Use a wider grip and send your elbows out if you feel only your lats.
Common mistakes
Bouncing your torso or keeping your elbows close turns this into a standard T-bar row. Use a light weight and first maintain the wide elbow path and stable torso.
Breathing
Exhale as you pull and inhale as you lower the lever. Keep your core braced and breathing continuously in the hinged position.
Coach tip
The height of the handle at your upper chest matters more than the load for rear-delt engagement. Pause for 1 second and check that your elbows are outside and above your hands.
