Diamond Push Up · Preview

STEP 1

Setup

Place your hands below your chest with thumbs and index fingers forming a diamond, and hold a straight plank.

STEP 2

Start phase

Bend your elbows close to your torso and lower your chest toward your hands.

STEP 3

End phase

Press through your palms to rise while maintaining a straight body line.

STEP 4

Target muscles

This movement primarily works your triceps. Focus on controlling the motion through these muscles.

STEP 5

Common mistakes

Move your body together rather than lifting your hips first or letting your lower back sag.

STEP 6

Breathing

Inhale as you lower and exhale as you press up.

STEP 7

Coach tip

Widen your hands slightly if your wrists feel uncomfortable. A comfortable motion matters more than an exact hand shape.
