Setup
Lie on the bench and grip the EZ bar with it positioned over your eyes. Place your hands comfortably on the curves so your wrists stay neutral.
Start phase
Lower the bar slowly toward the middle of your chest. Keep your elbows from flaring too wide, holding them around 45 degrees.
End phase
Press the EZ bar up through the center of your palms. Drive it straight over your chest without letting it sway side to side.
Target muscles
Feel your mid-chest contract while your triceps help you press. Do not rely on the EZ-bar grip; think about driving the bar up with your chest.
Common mistakes
Bending your wrists or lowering the bar toward your neck can bother your shoulders. Use a grip width that feels comfortable and keep the bar path consistent.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower the bar and exhale slowly as you press it up. Keep your breathing steady through every rep.
Coach tip
The EZ bar can reduce wrist strain, but it is not a reason to use momentum. Pause briefly at the bottom to make the chest work harder.
