Setup
Sit on the floor with your knees bent and hold one medicine ball with both hands. Lean back slightly and lift your feet to balance.
Start phase
Brace your abs and rotate your chest and the ball together to one side. Turn through your torso rather than moving only your arms.
End phase
Pass through the center and rotate slowly to the other side. Keep a similar range of motion on both sides.
Target muscles
Engage the sides of your abdomen to rotate and control your torso. Use your front abdominal muscles to keep your torso and pelvis stable.
Common mistakes
Avoid rounding your lower back or swinging the ball with momentum. Place your feet on the floor if maintaining balance is difficult.
Breathing
Exhale as you rotate to one side and inhale as you return toward the center. Continue the same breathing pattern on the other side.
Coach tip
Enter the weight of one ball. Count both the left and right rotations together as 1 rep.
