One Leg Press · Preview

STEP 1

Setup

Place one foot in the center of the platform and the other foot somewhere safe. Keep your back and hips against the seat, and brace your torso so your pelvis doesn't twist.

STEP 2

Start phase

Press through your whole foot into the center of the platform to straighten your leg. Keep your knee tracking in line with your toes instead of letting it drift inward or outward.

STEP 3

End phase

Slowly lower while resisting with the same leg. Control your range so your pelvis doesn't lift or shift to one side at the bottom.

STEP 4

Target muscles

Make sure the thigh and glute on one side are producing strong force independently. Because this movement makes side-to-side differences easy to spot, centered alignment is especially important.

STEP 5

Common mistakes

If your pelvis rotates or your knee collapses on the weaker side, the weight turns directly into excess stress. Lower the weight if needed, but establish the same position on both sides first.

STEP 6

Breathing

Exhale as you press and inhale as you lower. Using the same breathing pattern on every rep makes the single-leg movement more stable.

STEP 7

Coach tip

Starting with the weaker side and matching its rep target makes it easier to manage left-to-right balance. Be stricter about pelvic alignment and knee direction on every rep than about the rep count.
