Runners Stretch · Preview
Setup
Stand tall with your feet together. Extend one leg behind you and prepare to bend the opposite knee.
Start phase
Bend the front knee and send the back leg straight behind you. Slowly fold forward and reach toward the front foot.
End phase
Lightly hold the front foot or ankle and pause. Keep the back leg straight without forcing it.
Target muscles
Feel the front-leg calf and hamstrings and the back-leg quads stretch together. Different areas may pull on each leg.
Common mistakes
Rounding your back to reach can strain the lower back. Keep the back-leg knee straight.
Breathing
Exhale as you settle in and breathe comfortably while holding. Feel the pull ease with each exhale.
Coach tip
Find a comfortable pull, not pain. Switch sides for equal time.
