Setup
Place your whole foot on the step and stand tall. Use the handles lightly only when you need balance.
Start phase
Step one stair at a time with the feeling of driving up through your glutes. Keep your knees facing forward instead of collapsing inward.
End phase
Gradually lower the speed and shorten your stair rhythm. Finish the final section at a comfortable intensity to settle your heart rate.
Target muscles
Feel your glutes and thighs work strongly in turn. Press each step with your whole foot rather than just your toes.
Common mistakes
Catching only the edge with your toes creates excessive calf fatigue. Place your foot fully on the center of each step.
Breathing
Breathe regularly with the stair rhythm. When it gets difficult, make your exhale longer to help manage your heart rate.
Coach tip
Reducing your reliance on the rails raises the difficulty by itself. First practice keeping your balance independently.
