Setup
From a push-up position, prepare to reach one arm long in front of you. Brace your core and glutes and keep your torso from moving.
Start phase
Slowly lower your chest while supporting yourself with the other arm and your torso. Reach the extended arm far forward while keeping that shoulder from lifting.
End phase
Push the floor away and rise again. Keep your hips and ribs fixed together so your torso does not twist.
Target muscles
Press the floor hard with the one supporting hand. If your body leans to one side, your core has lost tension, so slow down and try again.
Common mistakes
If your hips sway side to side, balance breaks down instead of your chest doing the work. Reduce the range if needed, but keep your torso in a straight line first.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower and exhale as you rise. Do not hold your breath; keep your core braced.
Coach tip
It is fine to use a slightly shorter range at first. As your balance improves, reach farther and gradually increase the depth.
