Setup
Rest your back on an incline bench and let your arms hang naturally slightly behind your torso. Hold the dumbbells with your palms facing forward and keep your shoulders down.
Start phase
Keep your elbows in place and curl the dumbbells slowly. Maintain a supinated grip and avoid rolling your shoulders forward.
End phase
Lower the dumbbells slowly so your biceps lengthen fully. Keep the arms-behind-you starting position through the return.
Target muscles
Think of lifting with your biceps. If your shoulders move forward, lower the weight and reset them.
Common mistakes
Shoulders pulled forward by heavy weight remove much of the incline curl’s benefit. Prioritize shoulder position and the biceps stretch over load.
Breathing
Exhale as you lift and inhale as you lower. Steady breathing makes the slow descent easier.
Coach tip
An incline that is too high resembles a regular curl, while one that is too low may bother your shoulders. Find the angle where your biceps lengthen comfortably.
