Setup
Use the vertical handles and set the seat until the wrists are straight. Keep the elbows near the torso with the shoulder blades lightly set.
Start phase
Press forward toward the center of your chest. Let the elbows track beside you to favor chest and triceps over shoulders.
End phase
Return slowly until the chest is fully lengthened. Keep the wrists from bending.
Target muscles
Bring the upper arms toward the torso as you press. If the arms dominate, draw the elbows closer and retry.
Common mistakes
Pressing too high or flaring the elbows increases shoulder strain. Elbow position matters more than heavier weight.
Breathing
Exhale on the press and inhale on the return. Steady breathing helps both handles and your torso stay even.
Coach tip
If one side feels different, lower the load and match handle speed. A brief top pause can sharpen the inner-chest sensation.
