Setup
Set the seat so the handles align with the upper chest. Keep the shoulder blades lightly together and the chest open.
Start phase
Press the handles up and forward. Keep the elbows near the torso rather than flaring them.
End phase
Return under control and feel the upper chest stretch. Resist the weight even if it pulls you into the seat.
Target muscles
Drive with the upper chest. If the shoulders take over, correct the seat height and retry.
Common mistakes
A seat that's too high or low shifts the work to the shoulders. Verify the handles start level with the upper chest.
Breathing
Exhale as you press and inhale as you return. Use the same breathing tempo each rep.
Coach tip
Stop where the chest still holds tension instead of forcing full reach. A short top hold increases upper-chest tension.
