Seated Wide Leg Press · Preview

STEP 1

Setup

Sit deep in the seat with your back supported, and place your feet wider than shoulder width on the platform with your toes turned out. Grip the handles and brace your torso so your pelvis stays down.

STEP 2

Start phase

Slowly lower the platform while driving your knees toward your toes. Feel your inner thighs lengthen while keeping your pelvis steady.

STEP 3

End phase

Press through your whole foot to straighten your legs. Stop short of locking your knees, and keep them from collapsing inward.

STEP 4

Target muscles

Make sure your inner thighs and glutes are driving hard together. It's normal to feel more inner-thigh work here than on a standard leg press.

STEP 5

Common mistakes

If your knees cave in or your pelvis lifts off the seat, you increase stress on your knees and lower back. Prioritize the knee path that matches your wide stance before adding weight.

STEP 6

Breathing

Inhale as you lower and exhale as you press. Steady breathing makes it easier to keep your torso braced at the bottom.

STEP 7

Coach tip

Set your toe angle first, then practice driving your knees in line with it. Alternating this with a narrow-stance leg press can train your front and inner thighs more evenly.
